Kendra Scott & Holley Day: Fighting Metastatic Breast Cancer

On January 12, 2016, Holley Rothell Kitchen passed away after a long battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer. Today, October 18th, is our inaugural Holley Day, a day of giving that Kendra Scott dedicates to her dear friend Holley. In her honor, we are continuing her mission to educate and raise awareness for Metastatic disease by donating $100,000 to METAvivor. Read on to hear from Kendra herself about Holley's story, their friendship, and Kendra's passion for giving back to this cause.

Holley was a lifelong friend of mine. We met in my early 20’s and stood by each other’s side through everything – from boyfriends to weddings to kids. Through it all, Holley was a source of encouragement and inspiration. Even in January of this year, in her last days before we said goodbye, she was more concerned about a cold I had than she was about herself.

Holley was always so kindhearted, so selfless, that even when she was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer, she didn’t stop to worry about herself. She turned the fight of her life into an opportunity to inspire thousands, to educate others on the importance of research and funding for Metastatic Breast Cancer, and to be an inspiring example of a loving mother and loyal friend.

Our goal this month is to continue the mission that Holley left behind…to educate and raise awareness about Metastatic Breast Cancer. That is why today, our inaugural Holley Day, we are donating $100,000 to METAvivor, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of Metastatic Breast Cancer. By giving this disease the funding it so desperately needs, together we can end breast cancer for our daughters and granddaughters, so the generations after us won’t have to lose amazing women like Holley. Yes, it’s a big goal. But when you see what one voice can do – and Holley’s voice was so loud – imagine what we can accomplish together. Together, we can move mountains.

XO- Kendra

Take a moment to hear from Holley by watching her video that went viral last year. As she so profoundly stated, "Metastatic Breast cancer is not talked about enough... not enough research... but yet it's the cancer that kills.... please share to educate. Thank you! #lifer"
