When we asked Kendra Scott’s E-Commerce Specialist Kirsten what the most important element of her wedding was, she answered—that it happened! And for good reason. She and Ben had to change the wedding date twice and the venue, as she says it, ‘fairly last minute.’ Just three months!
We’ve featured amazing weddings before, but read on for the love story of a bride, a groom, and their friends and family who (almost literally) move mountains!
Husband and Wife:
Kirsten and Ben Gibbs
Where did you meet?
We grew up together in North Carolina, but reconnected and started dating in New York City when we both went to college there.
The Willow Creek Inn, Vale, NC
What was the most important element of your wedding?
Having changed our wedding date twice and venue fairly last minute, we really just wanted our wedding to happen at that point!
Our wedding date was initially scheduled for September, but due to Ben’s unforeseen 9-month deployment, we were forced to push it back to November. Invitations with our new date finally went out, it was happening! Then, the venue we had booked for over a year fell through 3 months before our big day. We just couldn’t catch a break.
Given that invitations had already gone out with our scheduled date, we were determined to make this wedding happen. With the help of family and friends that I am convinced could move a mountain, we were able to secure the perfect venue for our scheduled date. What made it even more perfect was that my mom and stepdad were married at that exact location 17 years before! After reliving the memories of our perfect wedding day through photos and videos, we are truly convinced that everything happened for a reason!
Our primary wedding color was burgundy with accents of blush pink and lots of greenery and neutrals incorporated.
How did you pick out the jewels? Did you have a Color Bar party?
All of my bridesmaids and I have long distance relationships, making it hard to coordinate a group event to pick out their jewels, but I fell in love with the versatile Monica Earrings from the Winter Collection! They turned out to be the perfect earrings for my bridesmaids. The best part…they will definitely wear them again!
Why did you choose to make Kendra Scott part of your wedding day?
Choosing Kendra Scott was a no brainer when it came to picking out my wedding day jewels. Besides loving the company and all that they represent, there was such a variety of styles to choose from. I chose earrings for myself and the bridesmaids from the Winter 2016 Collection, and my mom wore multiple pieces from the Weddings Collection. Although everyone has very different personal styles, they all were in love with their KS jewels!
And…How did he ask?
I was in my 3rd year playing for the Blondes vs. Brunettes charity football league benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association. I played in this league in memory of both of our grandmothers and spent a lot of time dedicated to the cause. The season consisted of 3 months of practices and fundraising events followed by one ultra competitive game. The event raised over $200,000 for Alzheimer’s research and care and for the first season in my time with the organization, the Blondes won the game! All of our family and friends had flown in since it was such an important event for us. Little did I know the event would hold an even more important place in my heart than it already did. After the game, I was announced MVP and after being interviewed (in front of 700 people, so nerve wracking!), the MC said he had just one more question for me, but he was going to need the assistance of my boyfriend. At that moment, Ben made his way out onto the field while a group of my closet teammates held signs spelling “MARRY ME?” Cue the emotions. Ben got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was the easiest decision I ever made and felt so special to be surrounded by so many friends and family.
