Happy Friday everyone – Kendra here! Today I want to discuss something that touches me and so many other women across the globe…breast cancer. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed at some point in their lives, and with an alarming statistic like that, it is so important to spread awareness about this devastating disease. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, 20% of the proceeds from our online SHOP Pink Collection this month will benefit Susan G. Komen Affiliate of Austin.
Like many people these days, I’ve been personally affected by this disease. When I was a teenager, my step father was diagnosed with cancer, and while he was going through treatments at the hospital, I met so many women who were going through chemo treatments and had lost their hair. These incredible women ignited a spark in me to start my first business, The Hat Box, a hat boutique with proceeds benefitting cancer research. I lost my stepfather to cancer, but his strength and that of the other victims I met changed my life forever and helped shape my heart for philanthropy, which is one of the three core philosophies of my business today.
And unfortunately, cancer is still affecting my life. Two of my close friends were recently diagnosed with breast cancer. One had a double mastectomy and the other is going through the surgery soon. Both women are young mothers in their 30′s and it still shocks me that this disease can impinge such young, healthy women. This has made the immense importance of awareness and self check exams even more real to me.

Know of a breast cancer victim who is going through surgery? Local Austin designer Allison Schickel, created the Recovery Brobe, a front opening bra inside a robe, complete with pockets for ice packs and drainage vials for women recovering from mastectomies. Unlike anything on the market, this product provides comfort for the healing woman and is a very cute robe too. I bought them for both of my friends and they absolutely love them!
Check out all of these other amazing products benefitting breast cancer research during the month of October including my gorgeous Harlow Statement Necklace in Pink Agate.
Whether you shop our SHOP Pink Collection, run in Komen Race for the Cure, or give to one of the many organizations benefitting breast cancer, I encourage you to find some way to support this cause this month.
